Meet Amara
Trauma Informed Care Rooted in Community and Social Justice
I'm Amara, and I'm honored to be here with you. I am a queer, mixed-race student at Antioch University Seattle, and I am deeply committed to culturally sensitive, anti-oppressive trauma healing. I am HAES-aligned, eating disorder-informed, OCD-informed, and have professional and educational experience in domestic violence, affirming counseling, crisis-work, and trauma healing.
A Kind, Welcoming Therapeutic Space
I hope to create a therapeutic space where people from all walks of life feel comfortable bringing their unique identities, experiences, and wounds into a kind, welcoming environment in whichever ways feel right for them. I offer individualized care that honors each person’s unique experiences, goals, and identities, while intentionally holding the impact of sociocultural beliefs, values, and systemic harm.
Who I Work With
I am particularly interested in serving LGBTGEQIAP plus folx and survivors of relational trauma. My academic and clinical work has focused on LGBTGEQIAP plus issues, domestic violence, addiction, and gender affirming counseling.
Clinical Frameworks and Areas of Focus
My professional experience includes DBT, RO DBT, ERP, polyvagal theory, trauma informed care, and HAES aligned approaches. I am eating disorder informed and OCD informed, and I continue to engage in learning around trauma focused, narrative, somatic, and creative approaches to counseling.
You Are in Charge Here
I don’t expect to understand the depths and the darkness that brought you here. I might never know what you’ve been through or what you’ve seen. I don’t know your story, and I might never, but I’m glad you’re here.
Everyone hurts, and what hurts is human. We can’t change what happened to you, but we can try to figure out where to go from here. You’ve made it this far, and you don’t have to do this alone. Trauma and healing look different for everyone. What’s important to know is that you are in charge here. We can start slow, and you will always set the pace. We will work together to determine what works for you and how to recover when it doesn’t. I can’t tell you exactly what this journey will be like, and I won’t tell you it will be easy… but you got yourself here, and for now, that is enough.
