Still stuck after talk therapy? Brainspotting goes deeper
What Is Brainspotting and How Does It Work?
Trauma does not just live in your mind. It lives in your body too. When something painful happens, the brain stores that experience deep below the surface where traditional talk therapy cannot always reach. This can show up in daily life as anxiety, depression, PTSD, addiction, or a persistent feeling that something is just wrong.
Brainspotting uses your eye position to locate where that pain is being held. When your eyes land on a specific spot, your body responds. You might notice tightness in your chest, tension in your stomach, or a shift in your breathing. Your therapist guides you to stay with that spot, allowing your brain and body to process and release what has been stuck, often without needing to talk through it in detail.
Brainspotting for Queer and Trans Clients
Living as a queer or trans person in a world that is often hostile, dismissive, or unsafe creates a specific kind of trauma. Minority stress, gender dysphoria, family rejection, and experiences of discrimination do not just affect your mind. They live in your body too. Brainspotting is particularly effective for processing this kind of deep, accumulated trauma because it works below the level of language and conscious thought.
You will never have to explain your identity to our therapists before doing the real work. Our clinicians are queer and trans themselves, and they bring that understanding into every Brainspotting session.

Common Questions About Brainspotting
-
Brainspotting uses your eye position to locate where trauma and stress are held in the brain and body. Your therapist guides you to focus on a specific spot while staying aware of physical sensations. This allows your brain to process and release what has been stuck, often without needing to talk through it in detail.
-
Sessions shift away from traditional talking and use eye movements to access deep emotional and body-based experiences. Your therapist will guide you to a brainspot connected to what you are working through. From there you may notice physical sensations, emotions, or memories surfacing as part of the healing process.
This method uses the direct link between your eyes and the brain's emotional centers, enabling deep introspection and healing without relying heavily on thinking and talking. Sessions create a safe, supportive space where you might naturally experience physical sensations and emotions as part of the healing process.
-
Brainspotting is a newer therapeutic approach designed to process trauma stored in the brain and body. While research is still growing, many clients find it effective for PTSD, complex trauma, minority stress, and experiences that are difficult to access through talk therapy alone.
